The opening ceremony of the new school-building was celebrated with politicians and notables on the 9th January 2006 in Kitahya.
The UWAKIKI Nursery School is mentioned since March 2006 as one of the 36 state-approved Nursery Schools in the governement guide of education. We are now the first official Nursery School in the Kagera Region.
A doctor from Bukoba consented to examining the pupils of UWAKIKI Nursery School twice a year on a voluntary basis.
From June to December we paid a teacher at the UWAKIKI-Nursery-School a small salary for the first time. Unfortunately, this is not guaranteed for 2006!
At the same time period we could also finance a kitchen facility. Thus the enrolled pupils could at receive at least one hot meal per day. But there is no financial guarantee even for this project in 2006!

Therefore, UWAKIKI proposes the formation of a sewing group in order to help supplement women’s income. They plan to sew hackysacks that would be sold in Germany. The project is still in the planning phases and would be implemented and expanded by future interns in 2006.
School construction
In May 2005 the German Foundation »Nord-Süd-Brücken« granted a request for subsidies for a second classroom for 40 pupils at the UWAKIKI-Nursery-School. Due to the great engagement of our volunteers and UWAKIKI members, the construction of the new classroom is almost complete. Photos.
